The
new IMS 600 Grand Soleil 42’ skippered by the talented Vasco
Vascotto has won both the overall and 600 class IMS world championship
held last week in Capri.
The
boat was fitted with a Sailmath WTP processor controlled from
the latest 6.05 Deckman for Windows version. Nacho Postigo (navigator
on board Italtel) commented “one of the reasons to choose
the WTP solution was the its ability to receive data from high
performance sensors and 10hz (or faster!) GPS sampling. This has
proved to be critical during this race, not only in the starting
procedure (the starting display in Deckman becomes faster and
much more accurate), but particularly to calculate currents. Anyone
who thinks the Mediterranean is a currentless place will never
win a race here, because we have been consistently measuring currents
of up to 1.2 knots during the week. This information has provided
us with a leading advantage against our competitors in situations
such as the starting line or the mark laylines”.
